Frequently Asked Questions about Souvenaid®
What is Souvenaid® and what does it actually do?
What is Souvenaid® and what does it actually do?
Souvenaid® is a medical nutrition drink designed specifically for the dietary management of early Alzheimer's disease, including Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).
It's powered by Fortasyn® Connect, a unique blend of nutrients that works to nutritionally support the growth of brain connections.
When you take it daily for at least six months, clinical research has shown it can help slow the rate of memory and cognitive decline in early Alzheimer's.
It won't cure the condition, but it's a meaningful part of a broader care approach.
How long does it take to work?
How long does it take to work?
Souvenaid® is designed to be taken daily for a minimum of six months before its potential benefits are fully realised.
It's not a quick fix, and it's not meant to be. Think of it like a long-term nutritional support tool rather than something that shows results week to week.
Clinical trials have tracked outcomes over three years, and that's where the strongest results have been observed.
Do I need a prescription to buy Souvenaid®?
Do I need a prescription to buy Souvenaid®?
Souvenaid® doesn't require a prescription in Australia, but it is a Food for Special Medical Purposes, which means it's intended to be used under the guidance of your healthcare professional.
Your GP or specialist will typically recommend it as part of a care plan. If you've already been given the go-ahead by your doctor, you can purchase it directly through us.
What's the difference between Souvenaid® Liquid and Souvenaid® Powder?
What's the difference between Souvenaid® Liquid and Souvenaid® Powder?
Both products contain the same Fortasyn® Connect formula, so the nutritional support they provide is the same.
The main difference is format and personal preference. The Liquid comes in a 125ml ready-to-drink bottle, which is grab-and-go with no prep required. The Powder comes in a 360g tin with 12 serves, which you mix with water or milk. The Powder is a bit more travel-friendly and has different flavour options, including the new Chocolate Hazelnut.
Try both formats and see which fits your morning routine better.
Can Souvenaid® be taken alongside Alzheimer's medication?
Can Souvenaid® be taken alongside Alzheimer's medication?
Yes. Clinical studies have shown Souvenaid® is safe and well tolerated both on its own and in combination with Alzheimer's disease medications.
That said, always let your healthcare professional know everything you're taking so they can give you advice specific to your situation.
Is Souvenaid® suitable if I have diabetes?
Is Souvenaid® suitable if I have diabetes?
Yes, Souvenaid® can be used by people with diabetes. It does contain carbohydrates, so as with any food or drink, it's worth monitoring your blood glucose levels in consultation with your diabetes care team.
Your doctor will be able to factor it into your broader management plan.
Is Souvenaid® gluten-free?
Is Souvenaid® gluten-free?
Souvenaid® Liquid is made from gluten-free ingredients and contains less than 20mg/kg of gluten. If you have coeliac disease or a gluten sensitivity, have a chat with your doctor before starting, just to make sure it's right for your individual circumstances.
Can I take Souvenaid® if I have a milk, fish, or soy allergy?
Can I take Souvenaid® if I have a milk, fish, or soy allergy?
Unfortunately no. Both the Liquid and Powder versions of Souvenaid® contain milk proteins, fish oil (tuna), and soy. If you have a known allergy to any of these, Souvenaid® isn't suitable for you.
Always check with your healthcare professional if you're unsure.
